Welcome to the Reebok Reo-Coker, Mears, and Eagles!

Coyle looks pleased with himself

Coyle looks pleased with himself

Sorry this is so late, I'm in the process of moving to France right now and have had to go to a McDonald's to get any internet. Anyway we've been waiting all summer for signings and suddenly it appears we've had 3. We've snapped up Nigel Reo-Coker from Aston Villa on a free, which is quite a good bit of business. Joining him in the New Boys Dept. are Tyrone Mears and Chris Eagles from Burnley for around £3m. This I'm less sure about, as we've all seen how our last player from Burnley worked out (ahem Blake). All 3 new boys came on as second half subs in Bolton's 2-0 win over Bury yesterday.

Star-divide

Coyle said of Reo-Coker:

"We're delighted to have signed Nigel. He's got the quality, drive and desire to compete at the highest level in the Premier League and I'm delighted that we have been able to bring him to the club.

Coyle hasn't said anything about Mears and Eagles (Meagles?), nor has anything appeared on the official site about them, but Burnley's site has released a statement and they played on Wednesday, so you can assume it's gone through. While these aren't exactly the most exciting signings we've ever had, at least we're making moves and I'm pleased to have new blood in the squad. Expect more detailed posts on these players later!

Villa fan here, yuo’ve signed an excellent player in NRC who most villa fans are sorry to see leave. If Coyle can make sure NRC stays in own half & plays the defensive midfielder role, rather than a box to box player he thinks he is, he’ll be a good asset to your team

Mears and eagles haven’t officially signed yet. But because it was a friendly they were aloud to play play, because you can play for anyone in a friendly as long as you are a registered player

Another Villa supporter here i’m not sure what planet GHVilla is from but to say you’ve got an excellent player is just laughable. Why did AVFC let this player leave on a free without offering him a new contract? I will tell you.
He can’t pass, tackle, shoot, run with the ball, never scores goals and is painfully slow.
You will soon find out his best asset is pointing to another player when anyone dares offer to pass the ball to him.

Sorry guys you’ve brought a pub player…..destined for the Champions League so his agent said….very funny!!!

idbwfc – lol reo coker is a ok player thats all …not worth a deal at villa but at bolton .. small time player for a very small club …

If NRC is such a crap player, why did your beloved Martin O’Neill pay £8.5 million for him 4 years ago? He’s captained West Ham, England U21’s and Villa at the end of last season. Seems like, as usual, Villa fans have a) an inflated opinion of their club and b) a total lack of respect for what other smaller clubs have achieved. Nothing changes in Birmingham!

Jinksy, it’s all about opinions pal. My villa mates are split, 50% think AVFC should have offered him another contract as for the 2nd part of last season, he was our best player behind Downing! 50% share your view, so planet earth for me however I just have a diferent opinion than you on NRC’s worth to the team.
Our midfield is weaker now for not having NRC as part of our squad options

Hi Guys, another villa fan here! The key with reo coker is to make sure he sticks to what he’s good at, GHVilla is right, he is not the box to box player he thinks he is but he will do an excellent job at braking up play if you can make him stick to that role, but it always seemed to me that he wanted to do more, like he believed he could but really he couldn’t, he got caught out of position too much and he hasn’t got any pace to get back into position! Plonk him in front of your defence and put a bungee cord on him so he can’t stray… and you WILL see an excellent player who will frustrate the life out of opposition! No sour grapes here btw, him and petrov seemed to do the same job (both useless going forward) so it really makes sense to get rid, in fact i’d rather you’d taken Petrov! NRC is too good to bench warm really, and Petrov will never ever ever be dropped by any AVFC manager until the day he dies, then they’ll stick his ashes on the pitch and we’ll get about the same contribution (I do have slightly sour grapes about petrov!).

Good luck for the season.

geoff – idbwfc,

I’ve got nothing against Bolton so this is seriously an honest view on a rubbish player & not sour grapes i was overjoyed when it was announced he was being released. Like i say not sour grapes.

Yes Martin O’neil paid £8.5m for him which is shocking and gave him £45,000 per week even more shocking but and this is a massive but soon found out he had brought a dud and hardly picked him. If anyone wanted Coker to be a success it was O’neil but even he couldn’t justify picking a crap player so didn’t.

Boys i deal in facts and they are the facts.

Another Villa fan here. I have to agree with Woodinho and GHVilla that NRC is a really good player and a coup for you. I wish he’d stayed.

As for over-inflated opinion, we’ve actually been a top club for 3 of the last 4 seasons and the only reason we weren’t last season was because MON threw his toys out of his pram when he wanted to wast more money on reserve team players.

It’s a bit harsh giving that type of criticism given that Bolton have mainly only made up the numbers for the last number of years. I don’t want to be harsh, but it’s give and take. Don’t make me dislike Bolton because I have nothing against them.

Another Villa fan here, NRC is an excellent DM, can tackle is an absolute machine in the middle of the park for that role however the problem with him is himself, he see’s himself as a box to box player, however his passing isn’t the best and his shooting the less said about that the better, I believe he’ll do well for you guys as long as Coyle tells him to stick to the role he’s good at.

idbwfc – We made a massive mistake with Cahill which is true but you’ll soon find out Like with Jay-Lloyd Samual Coker wasn’t a mistake. Not at all short sighted.
