Bolton 1-1 Barnsley: Just Not Good Enough

Barnsley equalize against Bolton Wanderers

Much like Bolton's goal in the first half, Barnsley's equalizer came much against the run of play. Bolton Wanderers were firmly in the ascendancy after the break with everyone looking like they had just chugged a Red Bull in the locker room. In what seems to be a recurring theme though, Bolton failed to take their chances. The whites put quite a few shots on target with Luke Steele saving all of them.

Barnsley manager Keith Hill made a couple of attacking substitutions and they look to have worked for the Tykes. The equalizer came from long range with Craig Davies hitting it from about 25 yards out. The ball flew low and looked like it could go just wide. It did, however, creep in, hitting the back of the net after smacking the post.

Barnsley nearly found a winner an 82nd minute winner through Marcus Tudgay after Adam Bogdan's initial save fell right to the forward. Bogdan threw himself in front of Tudgay on the rebound and made a brilliant save.

Bolton Wanderers go 1-0 up through Kevin Davies

A strange lineup simply was not doing the job for Bolton Wanderers early on. The Trotters conceded much of the possession early on and let Barnsley get the better sight of goal. Barnsley had more corners, less fouls, more shots, and more shots on target.

Bolton's goal really came out of just about nothing. Chris Eagles broke forward with Super Kevin Davies alongside him. Eagles did as Eagles does and put a very good ball into the box. Kevin Davies had to hit it on the volley and the ball crossed the goal line to Luke Steele's right and low. The goal was Kevin Davies' fifth of the season. He is one away from equaling his league return from last season.

Bolton have lost just one game of eight at the Reebok this season. That defeat came late against Crystal Palace with (guess who) Dougie Freedman in charge of the Eagles during that game. Bolton led 1-0 with less than 20 minutes to play in the first half.
