A report (if you can really call it that) from a number of English newspapers including Click Lancashire claim that the men in white are looking at Ipswich's 18-year-old goalkeeper Conor O'Donnell. We've honestly no idea how good this kid actually is but he must be rated pretty highly with Blackburn and Stoke City also keeping tabs on him.
It's cool and all that we're looking at players but why do we need another goalkeeper?
If this were the beginning of the season and Adam Bogdan hadn't found his stride yet, we might have thought this was a reasonable move, but after the recent run of form (short of Norwich City), we have to ask "Why?" Jussi Jaaskelainen is currently on the bench and if Bogdan keeps up this level of play, the big Finn is a very capable backup. His contract is out in the summer though so we may very well be down a goalkeeper.
That said, Bogdan is only 24 years old, a baby in goalkeeper years and current reserves keeper (and likely the future) Jay Lynch is only 18. He hasn't even really been born yet in terms of goalkeeping. Lynch came to Bolton after being a Manchester United youth and has impressed in his reserve side appearances, eventually making the bench during Jussi's injury. Let's not forget about Rob Lainton who is battling for that future backup spot with Lynch. Lainton is 22 years old and has been with Bolton Wanderers since joining the academy at the U-15 level.
Who knows what the future holds but at this point, it feels like Bolton's relatively low funds are better spent elsewhere.
