This choice is more by default than Chris Eagles actually deserving to win man of the match. In truth, no one was that good yesterday. That match was certainly Bolton's worst performance to date, and there is a lot of competition for that coveted spot this season. The team truly hit bottom, or at least what I hope was bottom, as I fear to imagine how much further there is to go.
Chris Eagles opened up the scoring in the 17th minute with a nicely deflected free kick, which gave Ben Amos no chance. That was the undeniable peak for the Wanderers in an otherwise dismal match. Anyone in a remotely defensive role automatically discounted themselves from MOTM consideration with an appalling performance, and the whole team displayed if not apathy, than complete ineptitude.
This was not a Bolton match to remember, nor is Eagles likely to treasure his performance. The good news is that things can only get better from here, right?
