UPDATED Bolton Wanderers Announce New Adidas Kit Deal, Tease New Kit
We reported a month agothat an Adidas kit switch was likely for Bolton Wanderers and just last week we told you about how all the signs were lining up. Today, Bolton Wanderers and Adidas are officially official. Bolton's kit deal with Reebok lasted a total of 22 years, the longest such deal in the history of UK football.
Fan Retrospective In the Bolton News
If you happened to get a copy of the Bolton News this last weekend, you will have noticed a massive look back at Bolton Wanderers' relegation season. There was a call to the fans for a brief, 200-word analysis of the season that was and a look ahead. For those that didn't get their hands on it this weekend, I submitted one of these reviews for the article. You can read the quick write-up after the jump.
We fully encourage you to go through the entire retrospective if you can get your hands on it!
Ricardo Gardner To Get Bolton Wanderers Testimonial
It's tough saying goodbye to Ricardo Gardner, also known as Bibi. The Bolton Wanderers legend was at the club for 14 years and certainly made his mark on some very important games. Except for Jussi Jaaskelainen, Bibi was Bolton's last remaining link to the second division and the last time Bolton Wanderers fought for promotion to the Premier League. The Reggae Boy made a total of 409 BWFC appearances after his transfer from Harbour View in 1998.
The fans will have one last chance to see Ricardo Gardner in a Bolton Wanderers shirt as he is set to get a testimonial, confirmed on his Twitter account. No word yet on when or who the opponent will be but you'll know as soon as we do.
Until then, you can read the excellent write up on Bibi from the Bolton News and reminisce about his goal that put Bolton Wanderers ahead at the Allianz Arena.
West Ham Beats Blackpool in Playoff Final
West Ham have achieved the one season bounce back Bolton hope to do this season, by winning promotion to the Premiership in the playoff final at Wembley. Carlton Cole opened the scoring in the first half, while Ricardo Vaz Te, a product of the Bolton youth set up put the Hammers back ahead in the 87th minute, condemning the Tangerines to another season in the Championship.
MOTM v. Sunderland: Kevin Davies
The end of the season brings about strange things. Kevin Davies, who has had a largely quiet season, seems to have rediscovered his old self as the season winds down. His half against Aston Villa in the midweek reminded us why he's called Super Kevin Davies. Martin Petrov also put in a decent shift. His wing play disrupted the opposition as usual, the cross he put in for Davies' first goal was nothing short of sublime. The man with the assist on the second goal, Sam Ricketts, also earned himself a mention. The Welshman was fairly solid in defense, quite the achievement for a Bolton player, and his forays forward proved dangerous. In spite of that, no one comes close to the skipper's performance for me.
Bolton Wanderers' Strikeforce
Wanderers were shut out twice in a span of three days over the Easter holiday. Overall. the club have scored 36 goals in 32 matches. Six clubs have scored less, so that is not dire, but it is close. Bolton have to find a way to put the ball in the back of the net. Past-performance would seem to indicate that Ivan Klasnic is the man for the job, but he is not really suited for the 4-2-3-1 formation Bolton need to play to have any hope of defending competently.
Current form seems to show a mini-revival for club captain Kevin Davies, who is certainly suited to being a lone frontman.
Youth, fitness, and work-rate point towards David Ngog as the man for the job. Tuncay Sanli and Marvin Sordell seem unlikely to play much of a role over the next few weeks, but they are there. So tell us, faithful Wanderers supporters, who do you think is the man (or men) to score the goals to keep us in the caviar and champagne of the Barclays Premier League for at least 1 more season? It's this week's featured poll!
Fireside Chats: Wolves 2-3 Bolton
Surprisingly, given the nature of this weekend's match, the excitement and the vital 3 points, the players have been less chatty than usual. Perhaps it was the controversial nature of Bolton's opening goal, a penalty won dubiously by Mark Davies, or maybe the club is still a little in shock over Fabrice Muamba (in spite of his continuing recovery). Whatever the reason, there were only a few interviews to draw from for this week's Fireside Chats. Hit the jump for what they did say.
From the Club to You: Free Travel to West Brom
Going to Birmingham is not an attractive prospect at the best of times. Add into that an out of form Bolton, and the club must surely be worried that away support will be lacking. To combat that, they've made club travel to the Hawthorns free. This is similar to the Swansea deal except for 2 important differences: first It seems that this time you don't need any previous ticket stub to qualify, and second that tickets themselves are only £15 for adults, as opposed to the £35 at Swansea.
